Your Leading Wetting Agents Supplier

YUEYANG CHEM WATERBORNE ADDITIVE CO., LTD. was established in 2010. It specializes in the R&D, production and sales of environmentally friendly additives. The company has a number of invention patents with independent intellectual property rights, and is one of the major manufacturers and suppliers of wetting agents in the world. A wetting agent is a surfactant. In automotive coatings, wetting agents help promote adhesion to various substrates.

Why Use Wetting Agents?

Wetting agents are essential for improving wetting and adhesion in water-based coatings. They ensure uniform coverage of the substrate, reducing bubbles and sagging. High water surface tension can cause uneven distribution, but wetting agents prevent defects like pinholes, craters, and uneven coverage, enhancing the coating's appearance and performance.

Introduction to Wetting Agents

A wetting agent is a surface-active molecule used to reduce the surface tension of water. The high surface tension of water is problematic in many applications where spreading and penetration of water is required. These include for example paints and other coating formulations, detergents, pesticides, and others.

The Function Of Wetting Agents

Less damage from extinguishing water
The use of wetting agent can reduce firefighting water damage. Firstly, less extinguishing water is needed because the fire is extinguished more quickly. In addition, less contaminated water has to be collected and disposed of. The logistical effort associated with the provision of extinguishing water is also reduced because less extinguishing water is needed.

Environmentally friendly firefighting
Modern foam agents are biodegradable. In addition, the smallest quantities of foam agent are sufficient for the generation of wetting agent. In turn, firefighting with water produces significantly more contaminated extinguishing water because the extinguishing process takes longer. The more extinguishing water is required, the higher is the logistical effort for its provision. The environmental balance is therefore also clearly in favor of wetting agent.

Storage Requirements of Wetting Agents

●All wetting agents must be stored in a safe, secure location.
●Shelves should be level, stable, and secured to the wall or another stable
●Store wetting agents away from direct sunlight, sources of heat, and egress pathways
●Hazardous wetting agents must be stored below eye level.
●Do not store wetting agents on the floor, window ledges, or balconies.
●Keep containers closed unless you are dispensing a chemical or adding to the container.
●Provide secondary containment for liquids whenever possible. Dishpans or polyethylene trays work
●Don't store wetting agents in a sink or fume hood, except for certain toxic gases that are so dangerous they can only be stored in a gas cabinet or fume
●Label containers, and be sure container is compatible with the chemical
●Use rated storage cabinets or safety cans whenever possible—required for >10 gal. Of flammables.
●Cold rooms, refrigerators, and freezers have additional requirements, particularly for flammables.

FAQ

Q: What is the principle of wetting agent?

A: Wetting agent is a surfactant that reduces the gas–liquid surface tension of a liquid, causing the liquid to spread across or penetrate more easily the surface of a solid either clean or dirty. Dispersants are also surfactants.

Q: What is the active ingredient in wetting agent?

A: The active ingredient is usually a 'surfactant', which behaves in the same way as a detergent: a long molecule that contains a 'tail' and a hydrophilic 'head'. The head can be positively charged (cationic), negatively charged (anionic) or carry no charge (non-ionic).

Q: How do you test a wetting agent?

A: One method of knowing whether or not a liquid has a wetting agent in it is to spread the liquid on a surface that is coated in grease. If the liquid does not contain a wetting agent, the its cohesive forces would overpower adhesive forces, causing the liquid to for droplets on the surface.

Q: What is the shelf life of wetting agent?

A: Most of the common wetting agents work only once and thereafter quickly lose their efficacy. Some wetting agents are unstable and start to biodegrade after 6 only months, meaning the shelf life of sealed bags from the producer gives the grower only a very short period of effective use.

Q: How long do wetting agents last?

A: Granular wetting agent treatment can last for up to five months in domestic lawns providing it is applied in the spring when conditions are wet or when it is thoroughly watered in.

Q: What makes a good wetting agent?

A: Addition of wetting agents — amphiphilic molecules with hydrophobic tails and hydrophilic heads in their chemical structures — reduces the surface tension of water and simultaneously allows the wetting agents to pass into the soil, thereby increasing infiltration and water retention.

Q: What is a wetting agent in plating?

A: Wetting agents, also known as surfactants, are used in electroplating nickel baths to promote full wetting of component surfaces which reduces surface tensions and prevents the formation of pit holes caused by adhering hydrogen bubbles.
